Normalize SVG icons

Different icon margins? Fit the visible artwork to one grid without rasterizing it.

Files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Up to 20 SVG files · 1 MB each · 10 MB total

Units of the output grid

Static vector icons only. Text, images, effects, animations and external resources are not supported.

Compare the icons

Choose SVG files or try the example to compare their framing.

Two icons can both have a 24 × 24 viewBox and still look very different in a toolbar. One drawing fills its canvas; the other sits inside a large empty margin. This SVG icon normalizer measures the visible artwork, fits it to a square grid and adds the padding you choose. Use it to prepare mixed icon exports for a website, presentation or interface. Compare each original with its normalized version before downloading. The paths stay vector shapes, and processing happens in your browser.

How to use

  1. Choose up to twenty static SVG files, no more than 1 MB each and 10 MB together, or try the three sample icons.
  2. Select a 16, 24, 32, 48 or 64-unit grid and padding from zero to one third of the grid.
  3. Keep margin removal enabled to align visible drawings, or disable it to preserve the original framing, then normalize.
  4. Select each successful file to compare previews. Download one SVG, copy its code or save the successful batch as ZIP.

What it handles

  • Centers artwork with uniform scaling, keeping proportions and vector paths instead of exporting pixels.
  • Measures visible fills and strokes using a 1,024-pixel sample, with a one-pixel guard at the edges.
  • Supports paths, simple shapes, groups, gradients, clipping and masks; rejects unsupported features instead of silently removing them.
  • Offers light and dark preview backgrounds for checking dark icons, white shapes and transparent areas.
  • Processes files one at a time, reports individual failures and gives duplicate ZIP filenames separate suffixes.

FAQ

Does the normalizer turn my SVG into a bitmap?

No. A bounded raster sample is used only to estimate where visible artwork begins and ends, including strokes. The download keeps the original vector elements inside a transformed SVG viewport. It is not a PNG hidden in an SVG, and it does not simplify or redraw your paths.

Will every icon look equally large or heavy?

The tool aligns geometric bounds, not perceived visual weight. A thin circle and a filled square can still feel different even when their outer dimensions match. Check the preview at the size you intend to use, then make optical adjustments in a vector editor when needed.

Why was my SVG rejected?

This version accepts self-contained static vector artwork. Scripts, animations, external resources, embedded images, text, use references, filters and stylesheet classes are rejected. Convert text to paths and export a plain SVG from your editor. Very complex drawings and fully transparent files also receive a separate error.

Are the files uploaded, and will ZIP make them smaller?

Files and generated SVGs remain in browser memory; nothing is uploaded for processing or saved in the page address. The ZIP groups successful downloads and uses stored entries, so it is not a file-size optimizer. Normalizing adds a viewport wrapper and can make an individual SVG slightly larger.
