Image and PDF character counter
Count poster and PDF text, review each page, then share the totals.
Files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Up to 10 files / 50 MB total / 20 pages. Images: 10 MB, 8 MP each. PDF: 25 MB each.
PDF and OCR components load when needed. Processing is local. For PDF artwork with image-based or outlined lettering, choose OCR every page.
Batch total
Repeated spaces and line breaks count as one space. Outer whitespace is ignored. Totals exclude report labels.
Check the text against each original. OCR can miss or invent characters; totals measure the edited text, not guaranteed print content.

Find out how much text a poster, flyer or PDF contains before sending it to a proofreader. Add your files, choose the content language and review the extracted words beside each original. The counters update when you correct a recognition mistake. A batch total adds the finished pages without counting file names or report headings. Recognition happens on your device; neither the original artwork nor the extracted text is uploaded. Use the result as a checked estimate, not an automatic invoice.
Guide: count characters in posters and PDFs for proofreading →
How to use
- Add up to ten images or PDF files, within the limits shown above.
- Select the text language. For mixed PDF artwork, choose OCR for every page.
- Start processing and compare each editable result with its preview.
- Correct missing or mistaken words, then copy the summary or download the text report.
What it handles
- Characters with spaces, characters without spaces and words, separately for each page and for the batch.
- Repeated whitespace and line breaks count as a single space; outer whitespace is ignored.
- Text-layer extraction for ordinary PDFs, with OCR for scanned pages and an explicit all-page OCR mode.
- Completed pages remain available if a later file fails or processing is cancelled; the report is marked partial.
FAQ
How are spaces and line breaks counted?
This counter measures readable text rather than the layout instructions inside an image or PDF. Consecutive spaces, tabs and line breaks become one space for counting; leading and trailing whitespace is ignored. The no-spaces count removes those spaces. Letters with combining accents and supported emoji sequences count as one visible character. Agree on this convention with your proofreader before using a total for pricing.
Will the number match every word printed on my poster?
Not necessarily. OCR can miss small print, decorative lettering or words on a patterned background. PDF text layers can contain hidden text or omit lettering converted to outlines. Compare the preview and editable text on every page. For mixed artwork, try OCR on all PDF pages. Correct the result before treating its character count as the finished editorial scope.
Which files and limits are supported?
Use PNG, JPEG, WebP or BMP images up to ten megabytes and eight million pixels, or PDFs up to twenty-five megabytes. A batch accepts ten files, fifty megabytes combined and twenty pages in total. Password-protected or unreadable PDFs are rejected. Models download only when needed. Files and text stay in this browser and are cleared when you leave or clear the page.
