Remove photo metadata

Inspect hidden photo data and save a cleaner copy without recompressing pixels.

Files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

One JPEG or static PNG · up to 25 MB

Inspection reads selected EXIF fields and counts metadata blocks. Cleaning keeps encoded pixels, removes ICC profiles, and may change color appearance.

Visible text, faces and location clues are not removed. Essential image structure and necessary orientation remain.

Metadata report

Choose a photo to inspect its metadata locally.

A photo can carry more than the scene you see: camera information, a capture date, a GPS directory or comments may sit inside the file. Check a JPEG or PNG here before sharing it. The report shows detected metadata containers and selected readable EXIF fields, then lets you remove those containers from a new copy. Compressed image data is copied without re-encoding. This is a file-level privacy step, not a guarantee of anonymity: faces, signs, watermarks and identifying details in the visible picture remain.

How to use

  1. Choose one JPEG or static PNG, up to 25 MB. The local inspection starts automatically.
  2. Review detected EXIF fields and the table of metadata blocks. Not detected does not prove that information was never present.
  3. Choose Remove metadata to create and inspect a cleaned copy.
  4. Check the after column and download image-clean.jpg or image-clean.png. The original file is unchanged.

What it handles

  • Removes JPEG application metadata and comments, PNG text and EXIF chunks, and trailing bytes.
  • Copies JPEG compressed scans and PNG image data unchanged rather than recompressing the photograph.
  • Rechecks the cleaned container before enabling download and reports the remaining metadata block count.
  • Keeps only a newly generated EXIF orientation field when rotation is required, plus essential image structure.
  • Removes ICC profiles as well: color appearance may change in color-managed viewers.
  • No uploads, stored photo history or metadata values in the URL; processing stops after thirty seconds.

FAQ

Does removing metadata reduce image quality?

This tool does not decode and recompress the pixels. JPEG scan bytes and PNG image data remain unchanged. However, removing an ICC color profile can change how a color-managed application displays the image. Keep the original and compare the cleaned copy before publishing color-critical work.

Does the report show every EXIF field and GPS coordinate?

No. It counts metadata containers and reads selected EXIF fields: camera model, date, orientation and the presence of a GPS directory. It is not a complete forensic metadata viewer. Malformed or unusual values may be unreadable even when their containing block is detected and removed.

Why can one EXIF block remain after cleaning?

Some cameras store rotation as an EXIF orientation value rather than rotating the encoded pixels. To avoid turning the image sideways, the tool replaces the original EXIF with a tiny new orientation-only block. Camera details, dates, thumbnails and GPS data are not copied into that block.

Will this make the photo anonymous everywhere?

No. Text, faces and location clues visible in the pixels stay visible. A sharing platform may add its own metadata, and your device keeps filesystem timestamps outside the image file. The download uses a neutral filename, but you should still check the picture and the destination before sharing.
