An hour is a mock exam, a deep work block, a parking ticket, a slow bake or the length of a lesson. The page opens at 1:00:00 and starts on one press. Over an hour the countdown stays exact, because it is measured against the clock rather than counted tick by tick, so a tab left in the background comes back with the right number. The remaining time appears in the tab title, and the live region announces the half hour, ten minutes, five minutes, one minute and the last thirty and ten seconds.
How to use
- Press Start to begin the hour.
- Leave the tab open; the title keeps the time left in view.
- Press Stop alarm at the end, or Reset for another hour.
What it handles
- An hour is long enough for a ticking counter to drift; this one reads the clock, so it ends when it should.
- Announcements at the half hour and in the last minutes reach screen readers without a message every second.
- Turn the volume to zero for a silent hour and watch the countdown or the tab title instead.
FAQ
Does it drift over a full hour?
No. When you press Start the page works out the clock time the hour ends at and compares against it, so a slow tab, a throttled background tab or a busy computer changes what you see on screen but not when the timer finishes. The only thing that can arrive late is the sound, if the browser had frozen the tab entirely.
Can I turn the sound off completely?
Move the volume slider to zero. The hour then runs in silence and the alarm is skipped, while the countdown, the tab title and the fullscreen view carry on as usual. That is the setting for an exam room or an open-plan office, where a bell at the end would interrupt everyone.
Can I set more than an hour?
Yes, up to twenty-four hours. Type the hours you need into the first field and the page counts down from there; the display switches to hours, minutes and seconds by itself. Anything above a day is trimmed to twenty-four hours. For very long waits, remember that the tab has to stay open for the alarm to sound.
