Length is the conversion people need most often, and usually for something concrete: a height on a form that wants feet, a screen advertised in inches, a jacket measured in centimeters, a run logged in miles, a room described in feet on a floor plan. Type the number, pick the two units and the result appears as you type; the table underneath shows the same length in all nine units, so a 180 cm height reads as 70.87 in, 5.906 ft and 1.969 yd at a glance. Metric and imperial units use their defined factors, an inch being exactly 2.54 cm. Nothing leaves the page.

FAQ
How do I convert cm to feet and inches?
Convert centimeters to inches first, then split the inches by 12. 180 cm is 70.87 in; 70.87 divided by 12 is 5 with 10.87 left over, so 180 cm is 5 ft 10.87 in, which most forms round to 5 ft 11 in. The converter gives decimal feet (5.906 ft) rather than feet and inches, so take the whole feet and multiply the rest by 12 for the inches.
Is an inch exactly 2.54 cm?
Yes. Since 1959 the international inch has been defined as exactly 25.4 mm, and the foot, yard and mile follow from it: 12 inches, 36 inches and 1760 yards. That is why the results for these units have no rounding error beyond the number of digits you choose. The nautical mile is separately defined as exactly 1852 m.
What is the difference between a mile and a nautical mile?
A statute mile is 1609.344 m and is used on roads and running routes. A nautical mile is 1852 m, close to one minute of latitude, and is used at sea and in aviation; a knot is one nautical mile per hour. If a distance comes from a ship, a flight plan or a chart, pick nautical mile, otherwise the ordinary mile.
How many digits does the result have?
Ten significant digits by default, so 1 m shows as 3.280839895 ft. If you need a rounder figure for a label or a conversation, set the precision to 3 or 4 digits and the result becomes 3.281 ft. The setting applies to the table too and is remembered on this device.
