kB, MB, GB and TB are decimal (1 kB = 1000 B), as on drive labels and mobile plans. KiB, MiB, GiB and TiB are binary (1 KiB = 1024 B), as Windows shows file sizes. Bits are for connection speeds; 8 bits make a byte.
A month is the average Gregorian month of 30.436875 days and a year is 365.2425 days; calendar months and years vary.
US units follow the US customary system (1 gal = 3.785 L, 1 cup = 236.6 mL); UK units follow the imperial system (1 gal = 4.546 L).

Weight comes up whenever a number was written in a different system from the one you use: a checked bag allowance of 23 kg on a ticket while the scale at home reads pounds, a recipe that wants 8 ounces of flour, a body weight given in stones, a shipping quote in kilograms for a parcel you weighed in pounds. Type the value, pick the units and the result appears as you type, with the same weight in all eight units in the table, so 23 kg reads as 50.71 lb and 3.622 st at once. A pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg, so nothing is approximate here. The page works offline and sends nothing.
How to use
- Type the weight, for example 23.
- Pick the unit you have and the unit you want; kilograms to pounds is preset.
- Swap the units to go the other way.
- Look up ounces, stones or tonnes in the table without changing the selection.
What it handles
- Eight units: milligram, gram, kilogram, tonne, ounce, pound, stone and US ton.
- Exact factors: 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, 1 oz = 1/16 lb, 1 st = 14 lb, 1 US ton = 2000 lb.
- The tonne (1000 kg) and the US short ton (907.18 kg) are separate units, so they cannot be mixed up.
- Gives decimal stones; the FAQ explains how to get stones and pounds.
FAQ
How do I convert kg to stones and pounds?
Convert kilograms to stones first, then turn the fraction into pounds. 75 kg is 11.81 st; the 0.81 st left over is 0.81 times 14, about 11.3 lb, so 75 kg is 11 st 11 lb. The converter shows decimal stones, so keep the whole number and multiply the rest by 14 to get the pounds.
Is the ounce here the weight ounce or the fluid ounce?
The weight ounce, one sixteenth of a pound or 28.35 g. A fluid ounce is a volume, about 29.57 mL in the US and 28.41 mL in the UK, and lives on the volume page. Recipes use both: ounces of flour are weight, ounces of milk are usually fluid ounces, and the two are not interchangeable even for water.
What is the difference between a tonne and a ton?
A tonne, also called a metric ton, is 1000 kg. A US ton, or short ton, is 2000 lb, which is 907.18 kg. There is also a UK long ton of 2240 lb, about 1016 kg, which is rarely used today and not included here. When a document just says ton, the country it comes from usually tells you which one.
Does the converter distinguish weight from mass?
For everyday use they are the same numbers: a scale calibrated in kilograms and one in pounds agree with this converter anywhere on Earth. Strictly, kilograms and pounds are units of mass, and weight is the force gravity exerts on that mass, but nobody labels luggage in newtons, so the page calls the group weight.
