SRT to VTT converter

Convert subtitle files in either direction without uploading them.

Files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

UTF-8 files up to 1 MB; pasted text up to 1 million characters; 10,000 cues.

Basic timed text only. Advanced WebVTT styles, positioning, notes and annotations are rejected, not silently removed.

Convert existing subtitles between SubRip and WebVTT without uploading your file. Paste timed text or choose a UTF-8 file, select the output format, and inspect the result before downloading it. This tool keeps cue text, line breaks and millisecond timing while normalizing subtitle numbering. It does not listen to audio, translate dialogue or generate captions. Use it when a website needs VTT but your editor exported SRT, or when an editor expects SRT. Advanced positioning, styles and other unsupported features are rejected rather than quietly removed.

How to use

  1. Choose a UTF-8 SRT or VTT file, or paste its contents into the input panel.
  2. Select the format your player or video editor needs, then choose Convert subtitles.
  3. Check the output and any reported errors. Copy the result or download the subtitle file.

What it handles

  • Preserve Unicode dialogue, multiple lines per cue and millisecond timestamps during conversion in either direction.
  • Keep basic bold, italic and underline tags as text; the preview never executes subtitle markup.
  • Handle UTF-8 BOM and Windows line endings, renumber SRT cues, and reject invalid or reversed times.

FAQ

Does this create subtitles from audio?

No. It converts an existing timed subtitle file. You need captions with start and end times before using it. Audio transcription produces text through a different workflow, and adding accurate subtitle timing is another step. Renaming an audio file or a plain transcript to SRT does not make it a valid subtitle file.

Will all WebVTT styling survive conversion?

Only basic timed text with bold, italic and underline tags is supported. WebVTT positioning, voice annotations, regions, style blocks and notes are rejected with a message. This avoids a download that silently loses information. Export a basic subtitle version from your editor when you do not need those features, and keep the original file.

What are the file and text limits?

Choose a UTF-8 file no larger than one million bytes, or paste up to one million characters. A file may contain at most ten thousand cues. Processing stays in a browser worker and the input is not saved by this tool. Clear removes the working text; you must save the downloaded result yourself.
