100%

On screen: #ffffff

Other versions

A screen filled with #ffffff. Held up beside a laptop or a phone it works as a soft, even light for a video call, a passport photo or close-up work, and the brightness slider lets you soften it without touching the system brightness. A tablet showing white also makes a passable light table for tracing thin paper or checking a negative. On a monitor, a full white field is the fastest way to find dead pixels, which appear as black dots, and to see whether one area of the panel is warmer or dimmer than the rest.

How to use

  1. Open the page; the screen is already white.
  2. Lower the brightness if the white is harsh, or leave it at 100% to use it as a light.
  3. Press Go fullscreen, then place the display where you need the light. Press Esc to come back.

What it handles

  • Pure #ffffff at full brightness, so nothing tints the light.
  • The brightness slider steps down to 10%, which turns the white into a soft grey light instead of switching it off.
  • Bright and even enough to reveal dead pixels: on white they show up as black or coloured dots.

FAQ

Can a white screen replace a ring light?

For one person at arm's length, close enough. A monitor is large and diffuse, so the light is soft and flattering, but it is much weaker than a lamp and its colour is fixed by the panel. Move nearer, raise the display to eye level and turn off harsh lights behind you.

How do I find dead pixels with a white screen?

Fill the screen with white, look closely and move your eye across the whole surface. A dead pixel stays black; a stuck pixel shows one strong colour. Repeat on black, red, green and blue, because a pixel that fails on one channel only is invisible on white.

Why does my white screen look yellow or blue?

Because of the panel's white point and any night-light or colour filter the system applies after sunset. Turn off blue-light filters and colour profiles before you judge a screen. Two monitors side by side rarely match out of the box; that difference is normal and can be calibrated away.
